Viewers of E4 comedy The Mindy Project will know, despite being a full-time gynecologist, Mindy sure knows how to enjoy her love life to the full. If her serial dating goes on much longer I might start thinking she’s a bit of a slut!
So far, we’ve seen the lead character get involved with a travelling priest, that creepy holistic doctor-guy from the rival practice, a cheating business type and probably others I’ve forgotten. Then there are the fleeting men, some of which haven’t aired yet, but come courtesy of guests appearances from Seth Rogen, Adam Pally, James Franco Mad Men’s Ben Feldman. Seriously, how many men does Mindy do the dirty with?! Don’t get me wrong – this dating all makes for excellent comedy value. The episode where Casey tries to convert Mindy to Christianity was a series highlight for me and my split sides. But how realistic are half of these situations?? James Franco will play a model-turned-doctor. That never happens in real life. At least Adam Pally is playing another doctor. Two doctors getting together – that, right there, is real life. Ben Feldman plays an arts and culture writer who just happens to fall for a gyne? Sure, casual. And once again may I remind you that Mindy Lahiri is a full-time gynecologist?! Most hospital doctors I know barely work sociable hours, let alone have time to date!
Anyway, as we all know, these men are just fillers. What the show is really building up to is the moment where Mindy gets together with Danny – her kind-of reluctant soul-mate. Last night’s episode was the closest the two have got to something happening. Danny and Mindy is doable but the show will then be left with a New Girl’s ‘Jess and Nick situation’ where the inevitable has happened, so what now? Since she’s a writer on her own show, I guess it’s down to Mindy herself to work it out!
